Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Atkinson has always been a big team ref, I was praying none of the city players would go down in the box because that ref would have given a pen without a a moments hesitation. Aguero straight red, a formality, didnt even give a foul. Kompany not only had 3 obvious fouls that could have been yellows he also committed over 7 fouls and should have had a yellow just on toting up but no chance. And whilst we are at it if there hadn't been goal-line technology theres no way the cunt would have given the second goal in a million years.

hHowever, after saying all that I couldn't be more pleased that we beat the cunts 11V11 so no shine was taken off the victory. I cannot remember seeing a West Ham team work as hard as that for 90 minutes, well ever, to be honest and with a great deal of quality as well. I am just enjoying the moment to be honest.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
We have to fight fire with fire. The one constant that comes across from the Liverpool, Man Utd and City games is they ALL are quite prepared to do WHATEVER is required to try and get a result, be it within the rules or otherwise.
Unfortunately, we will have to accept that if we have pretensions on those top spots, we may have to develop that same mindset.
They survived with 11on the pitch, when we all know they could've been down to 9 men. At the same time, both Valencia and Sakho came close to being deliberately maimed / injured. Made no difference to the result on the day, but projected forwards it could've made a huge difference to both sides (and the sides around them in the table).
The top clubs have strength in depth on their side - if they can nobble a few of our in form players, they increase the likelihood of us being a diminished threat as the season unfolds. Cynical I know but at the top of the table its about more than 'this game this afternoon'...

Like it or not, that is the mindset we will need to cultivate if we are serious about staying up there. It's not fluffy bunny land.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I can understand any ref being out of position due to the pace of the game or having view blocked but in the Aguero incident he is perfectly placed and goes into a crouch like a baseball umpire calling someone sliding into base.
And then either doesn't see or chooses not to see an over the ball stamp.

Personally I thought Kompany had a couple of yellows in the second half. The one in the first he went through the back and craftily put his knee in Valencia's kidney.
In the one shown on MOTD he mistimed a clearance from behind Valencia and kicked him up in the air. A yellow and I am sure it would have been given if it was his first.
Personally I don't like to see players go off unless they have done something vicious and violent but this was the equivalent of Collins v Spurs. Ref had no problem with that one.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Lilly Hammer ~ I agree he SHOULD have spotted it & yes it was a dreadful career-threatening challenge

When he sees the replay I'm sure he'll be shocked that he missed it

Really my point is that the referee might choose to tolerate/ be lenient on certain issues (Kompany & Morgan) but there are issues where it doesn't come down to discretion of the referee

That was a straight red. No Argument!

That's a level headed and fair summary of Atkinson and his day, except.......

"He missed the nasty challenge by Aguerro on Noble which would have been a certain red if it had been spotted."

.....this, despite his usual good standards, was a huge fuck up by him. Just look at the pictures that show where he was ath the moment Aguero landed on Noble's leg/ankle. That really, truly, could have ended Noble's career. Shocking challenge, and shocking moment of blindness from the ref.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I rate Martin Atkinson as a referee ~ I've thought him to be our best over the last few seasons

I thought he was fairly reasonableon Saturday. It was probably quite a tough game to spot everything as it was played at such a pace throughout & to his credit he was never really caught too far away from play

He was lenient towards Kompany (who I thought got away than far more than he should have done for the way he was manhandling Valencia all match) but a red card would have been a bit unfair

He could easily have given Morgan a red (2nd yellow for leaping into the crowd) but showed common sense (Are referees allowed to do that these days?)

He missed the nasty challenge by Aguerro on Noble which would have been a certain red if it had been spotted

Most of us saw it as a foul at the time (which wasn't given) but when you see the replay it was a vicious & deliberate attempt to cause injury

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Kompany's booking was a cracking, full blooded challenge.

However, if he was booked for that he should have been for various other fouls.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
The reaction on here towards the fans and the team has been overwhelmingly positive. The reaction towards the red and the media has been accurate, the only negativity has been some people having a go at their fellow fans for having the temerity to think that the ref was shit. Which he was.

I don't agree with you.

But you might agree with me.

Ah fuck it Ron agrees.

It probably should have been a yellow then - or a straight red

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Kompany didn't deserve a second yellow.

I hate to think how people would be carrying on about it if we'd lost.

Mr Polite 9:19 Mon Oct 27
Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I watched it at pub with no commentary. I thought it could easily have been given no foul and definitely never a yellow.

But my main point of posting on this thread in the first place was - why care. We won and yet the negativity after the game was amazing.

Ref hates us, MOTD hate us, media hate us, bt sport hate us.

Weird

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I watched the recording. I think people probably get influenced by commentators when they're watching in the telly. Michael Owen said we were under the cosh so we hung on for a win, Michael Owen said Kompany didn't foul Valencia so it wasn't a foul.

Mr Polite 9:06 Mon Oct 27
Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Valencia went down very very easily.

But like you say, we won so who cares anyway.

I disagree P, in this day and age both challenges were yellows. He should have gone as should have Aguero. They got lucky on both counts in my view. Still it's history for now lets hope pay back comes the week before they play us at their gaff.....

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
The ref set the tone for the day when he didnt give a blatent handball early doors. I think kompany was lucky not to go if you tot up the total number of fouls he made.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Hermit

I watched it live on TV not just on MOTD so with the replays had a much better view than anyone at the games.

The incident you are talking about was never ever a yellow card and possibly not even a foul.

Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Amalfitano wasn't over celebrating.
He was trying to help Valencia who had fallen into the Man City fans as he passed to him back onto the pitch.

Hermit Road 7:39 Mon Oct 27
Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I didn't notice, maybe it wasn't as obvious as being the last defender and going through the back of a player on the half way line.

The Hammers 7:29 Mon Oct 27
Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
Should Amalfitano have been sent off for over celebrating?

I've seen player getting yellow for that...

Hermit Road 7:08 Mon Oct 27
Re: The referee and Vincent Kompany.
I can understand why a lot if people on here agreed with the ref as motd didn't show Kompany's second foul which was the definite yellow.

People at the game saw it and were also caught up in the tension of the moment. We knew the game could flip on such poor decisions. At home on the settee I guess it just doesn't offer the same perspective.
